Joie Lassiter Gallery, one of the most originative galleries and art consulting services in the Southeast, is offering internships to University students. Gain experience and credits for your art-related BA/ BFA whilst working for a professional gallery. Learn how a gallery runs, set up and work a show, how to work with artists and handle their work, as well as integrating computer skills which relate to arts management.

A keen interest in Fine Art and Gallery Management is a must.

The internship focuses on: gallery archives, art handling and shipping, public relations, mailings, exhibition installations, receptions and other programs.

Interns will be involved and trained in the following areas:

Shows - (2-4 per semester)

Assist with writing Press Releases and Gallery Listings
Send out by fax and email Press Releases and Listings
Send out invitations (not bulk mailing)
Help obtain artwork from New York and other cities
Assist with installation & hanging
Assists at show receptions where possible

Gallery Management

Assist with general office inquiries
Maintain relevant files & computer filing system
Tidy office space
Maintain office supplies
Oversee gallery cleaning
Assist with handling art, packing and shipping
Slide registry
Contact artists as necessary
Put together artist information packages/ PR packages to send out to clients
Help with applying for public art projects
Be support for corporate business and other exhibits
Other projects may also arise

Interns to work on average 2-3 days per week for a total of 8-12hrs / week. Hours can be altered to fit student's requirements. The intern will have the opportunity to work up to a part or full-time position in the gallery upon "needing a job" or graduating

Requirements

Good relationship and communication skills
Well organized
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good computer skills - Word, Excel (knowledge of Access and PhotoShop a plus)
Enthusiasm

There are a total of three internships available per year. The schedule runs:

Summer - May to August

Fall - September to November

Spring - January to May
